1.0 Progression and Delivery Overhaul – Frontier News

We’re making deliveries faster and more convenient than ever – find out how!

Hey Exofarmers! 1.0 is just a little under three weeks away and we still have so much to talk about, so we’re ramping up our news output! Today we’re talking about deliveries.

Making deliveries to the Colonies is at the core of our progression, so we want to improve how it feels. Our goal is to make the act of completing deliveries feel smooth, satisfying and well paced rather than frustrating and grindy by removing friction and reducing delivery frequency. It’s faster and more convenient than ever in 1.0 – just in time for the final deliveries needed to reach the ending.

New Milestones & Missions

1.0 adds Milestones 13 and 14, which include new recipes, Crafting Construct tiers, Mods, the Skyblazer Transform Mode, Tool and Transform Mode Mk:s, and a new Mech set. These are our most powerful additions yet, and represent the peak of the Mech’s power.

Wrapped around Milestone progression is a series of new main missions that take you from the start of the game to the very end. Uncover the planet’s secrets and complete your ultimate goal of helping the Colonies!

Re-balanced Progression

We’ll be consolidating the deliveries so there will be fewer options over all. This should make it less overwhelming and easier to set goals. You will also need to complete fewer deliveries in total to complete the game, and we have tweaked what resources you have to send and how many. We want an experience where each delivery becomes a well-paced and properly challenging for players to overcome.

We’ve also made changes to milestone unlocks to make it smoother and more logical. Things will now unlock at a better pace and at more reasonable times. The biggest change to progression is that automation is now introduced way earlier in the game, but many other things have been moved around as well to improve the experience.

Delivery Menu & Cannon Overhaul

We will also be overhauling the delivery menu to be more convenient to use. This includes being able to make deliveries from the main screen, without having to go into each planet view. The individual planet view has been removed and that information has been brought to the main screen.

Instead of manually contributing individual resources to complete a delivery, the game will now instead check if you have all the necessary resources to send everything at once – kinda like when you’re crafting! This drastically reduces the amount of actions required for delivering.

1.0 includes new dialogue for the Colony Representatives. As you make deliveries you’ll help the Colonies go from Struggling to Thriving, learning more about each Representative along the way.

Delivery Queue

The current flow of backing out and seeing the cannon fire for each delivery was designed for a progression where you were making way fewer but bigger deliveries, but as it is right now it can quickly get annoying having to wait for it every time. In 1.0, you’ll be able to queue up multiple deliveries and them send them out at the same time. This lets you stay in the menu until you’re all done!

Research Initiative Overhaul

We want 1.0 to be a complete experience that can stand on its own for a long time to come. As part of this, we’re changing Research Initiatives from being a special multiplayer feature into a more straightforward singleplayer one. You’ll now be able to make deliveries to Prometheus Station, similar to other Colonies, and in return you’ll unlock a variety of Mods. You’ll no longer need other players to pitch in order to complete the deliveries, and you won’t have to wait for new ones to unlock.
